Well, the problem with that test is that the Sony TV does not seem to display the pixel depth. It only shows the resolution (and goes into HDR picture mode when HDR is sent).

The Samsung player does give out a pretty decent picture. Unfortunately, when using a projector (even one labeled as HDR compatible) will not produce as bright a picture as an HDR compatible UHD TV....

I had this problem when I had the resolution set to 2160p. When I switched the resolution setting on the k8500 to auto, the problem went away.

Sorry for the confusion. I was using the UBD-K8500 with the VW-500/600ES. What I swapped out was the projector for a UHD TV. The Samsung player remained the same.

Yes, it was the HDCP warning and that movie (unlike the Fox UHD titles) did NOT play in 2160p. The TV proudly displayed that the resolution was 1080p. :(

I had the same problem with the Last Witchhunter UHD disc from Lionsgate. I'm using an X7200WA with the DTS:X and HDR update. So, the update is not what is needed here apparently.
