It's tougher to get better quality sound from an in-wall vs a tower/bookshelf so you may have to spend quite a bit more to get a better speaker.

Polks ebay store has RTi in-walls from $90 and up....

The older RTi's were pretty harsh on the treble as well. The newer ones were toned down a bit IMO. The only Primus series I've listened to recently were 160's and they were pretty bright too.
