Personally, i think timbre matching is overblown. Others live and die by it. If it doesnt bother you, than i wouldnt stress on it. I have never timbre matched have never experienced "chalk board"...

Because amps just push power to a speaker, nothing more. It may sound louder, but thats not different. Thats just a higher volume with less juice.

why? Low frequencies are omni directional. Which way the driver fires is irrelevant. The only benefit from a down firing sub is so your kids dont damage your drivers.
