I agree with the calibration benefit, but thus far every laser PJ in a decent price range I have read about or heard about has not been worth a darn. I know this might be different, but I have...

Google it of course, someone usually posted it already.

If no-one has posted the info for a certain PJ, then simply look at lamps online that claim to be and compare the image posted by the Ebay...

I bought a refurb and I have put 10,000 hours on it without a single problem. Also, I wouldn't assume the w7500 has better blacks unless someone like Zombie10k did a side-by-side comparison and...

Mine never rolled up no matter what position it was mounted in even when it was brand new, it was just defective and I probably should have exchanged it. I had 2 people moving and holding the thing...

I kept the HP because of the gain, I think most of us just feel stuck to the HP (unless you have the 2.8 then you might be 100% satisfied). For the first few years, I didn't notice the texture (I...

None-the-less, the 2.4 has plenty of gain, that's not the issue, the issue is the texture. Even I notice it.

That will suck if even the 2.4 material is going to be gone, I'm debating on ordering...

This is a very old thread and things have changed a bit in the lamp market since then.

It is much easier to get OEM's directly from Hong Kong or other orient locations by looking at the image and...

Yah and it came from that document, I am pretty certain it's 2.0 to 2.2. And I also know that anyone stating it's exactly 1.8 doesn't disclose an error margin in doing the measurement, cause it's...

A bad screen sample altering the on-axis gain, come on. When you see someone take 1 bad measurement, it invalidates all of them. That's the rule unless they can know why the measurement was bad. It...

The 2.4 screen is actually around 2.0 to 2.2 gain (within error margins) if you are "wearing the PJ as a helmet", not 1.8. Not sure who said 1.8. Though almost no-one will get 2.2, some might get 1.9...

It had issues which is why you saw one so cheap, especially with being bright enough, I'd give it a pass most likely and go for a more recent JVC, like the RS-49.

I don't want to waste the money, I'm currently half-employed and only work part-time for a little while. Maybe now I'll finally have time to get back to the PJ Calculator (hopefully).

The Optoma eh500 is a bit brighter and cheaper ($1500), but it's not as good of a projector as the Benq I don't think. I heard some people had some issues with it, would be fine for home use, but it...

Native on/off contrast is what matters most, and that is why the JVC is better. The RS-49 has quite a bit darker blacks than the RS-48 though. The RS-49 has mind boggling black levels because it is...

Yah, time to mod my Benq w7000 to a DC 4 (NOT!), the contrast might go up from 1000:1 to 1300:1, hah.

If you aren't a big gamer, I'd go for a B-Stock JVC RS-49 or RS-48 would be better over the Sony.
