I noticed the dithering at power-up from 8-9 feet away on my VT30, when the TV was in standard mode. I don't perceive it in THX or custom mode.

You can minimize it by setting Black Corrector and ACE to Low. I don't notice it any more with those settings, and there's little to no impact on overall picture quality.
