Why avoid Onkyo? I've got a TX-NR818 that I am no longer using, lmk if you'd be interested in buying. Used for 1.5 years, never had a single issue with it. Great AVR.

True. Looking at the 3k and sealed SI 18 combo though, I believe you will be amp limited. When I had a couple sealed SI 15's, I upgraded from an EP4000 to a 6k, and even that small jump in amp power...

EDIT: Just saw you've got D4's...the 6k can't handle 2 ohm loads, so you'd have to run them at 8 ohms if...
