Yes, a thousand dollar pair of speakers (retail) “should” win fairly easily. At least that is what one would think. But speakers are highly subjective (as you have noted), and in Andrew Robinson’s...

Congratulations on your purchases. I too have the Impression Series and a PSA sub and have had excellent results. Obviously subwoofer placement is the key. Once you have that worked out, I’d...

Have you chose a receiver?

There are plenty of nice bookshelf speakers around your price point. You may want to look at Chane, Philharmonic Audio, RBH, and WaveCrest. I do know from personal...

Yes. Pretty much any speaker/subwoofer with a port has a potential to chuff. When auditioning these speakers at home, I ran them in 2.0 mode for two weeks and didn't hear anything amiss. Not that...

Thanks for the post, Trans. But wow, his reviews exhaust me. He always seems higher than a kite :).

Oh, btw, I've never had port chuffing, but I don't play them at 100 dB either.

That is a shame, Scott. You'd figure the sound engineer understood the demographics. Still, being 8 rows from the stage had to be great seats. I was 9 rows back in a Roger Hodgson concert.

Thanks for the heads-up, Russ69. I’ll check it out. Been to the Hollywood Bowl several times. And you’re right, they are getting on in years (aren’t we all?) ;). A few years back I saw the Roger...

Ahhh, the Moody Blues. I also seen them at the Greek Theater, and on 3 separate occasions, but it's been quite a long time ago.

Hi torii. Soundstage is critically important, as is other aspects of a speaker’s performance. But it’s impossible for me to answer your question. There is no way I can estimate how deep the...

I think you’ve made a wise choice. I also believe you will really enjoy these speakers, but I simply cannot guarantee it. As I’ve said many times, each person is different in what kind of sound...

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘large’ enough. Large, as in upper bass/lower midrange slam? Or large as far as soundstage size? If it is soundstage size, then they have a very large soundstage. ...

Thank you for your compliment. I’m glad you enjoyed my review. I tire quickly of user reviews that aren’t the least bit critical, as no speaker is perfect at everything (not even my beloved...

Your musical taste is similar to mine and I suspect that all you need is a good subwoofer. As has been mentioned, look at PSA, Hsu, Rythmik and SVS. SVS has a 45 day trial period and shipping (both...

The Audyssey setting for the sub isn't distance at all. It is time delay. Each subwoofer will have some sort of processing going on that delays the signal. Audyssey makes up for this with a filter...

From the bookshelf speakers I've auditioned, I'd have to agree. The R5Bi is ridiculously good for $225/pair (or as Andrew Robinson stated, "stupid good"). I certainly preferred them over many...
