If you already have the speakers then do it for sure, you'll get more enveloping surround with 7.1. Just use your neural surround modes.

I've never ran my coax through through a power bar before, it's just another connection in the chain. It would be interesting to know if there's actually any benefit to doing that.

My opinion is squeeze as much seating in as you can. Especially if you're married and you have another couple over, 3 seats doesn't work well.

I would probably lean towards the symmetrical layout....
