Seemed to me copper/silver would stand out more in most cases, but I only considered on wall or shelf placement. With towers in the middle of the room it is indeed different.

I think the problems people were having are just that one wire wasn't connected to the terminal on the speaker.

If you do solder something, use leaded, not lead-free. Especially with basic irons...
