For your room, I'd recommend the PB13-Ultra... ;) ...but SVS has only two models for less than $600: The SB-1000 and PB-1000. The PB is the one you'd want if you were to go with SVS.

FWIW: A buddy of mine has 685s (the previous version - "S1") as his mains and they are very nice-sounding speakers. If the S2s are at least as good, they're definitely worth your consideration.

The TrueHD audio is most likely "embedded" in the Atmos stream. Your AVR should be able to decode and play it.

I disagree that one sub guarantees "overall crappy bass". Depending on the room and on placement, a single sub may provide good bass across the MLP.

If a single SW-150 gives you reasonably smooth FR at the main listening position, I'd go with the PC-2000 for more overall output and considerably greater extension (compared to three SW-150s).

My DLA-HD250 is worth every penny. :)

Each of the two runs of wire between my iNuke 6000DSP and my quasi-DIY subs is roughly 30'. (One's a little more, one's a little less.) I used 12ga. speaker wire from HomeDepot.

For $1K, I'd start with a 2.1 set-up and put half of the amount on a sub such as the SVS PB-1000. That leaves $500 for a good pair of speakers. When funds become available, add a matching CC...
