Not true. Throw many AVRs in front of Magnepans and watch the protection circuit kick in. It's the dilemma I am facing as I look around for receivers (or most likely an external amp).

I would have a hard time selecting a receiver without knowing the speakers. Some speakers have a lower impedance than 8 ohms. Not all receivers are rated to drive something like 4 ohms or can do it...
