After 2 nights and 11 hours of listening to the Ascends and swapping the Grands in and out... I can say these are 2 VERY different systems with their own strengths and weaknesses....

I think they are fine with a sub and depending on what you are used to, the VGT may sound fine without one. In our case, I think my wife is just used to towers with 8" and 10" drivers.
