What should be demanded is not a sharper cutoff, but proper implementation of 4th order Linkwitz-Riley cutoffs. The BM of the receiver is really poorly integrated with room correction in the...

The higher the slope the more ringing / phase distortion is introduced by the crossovers. So, selecting the crossover slope is always a compromise between rejection in frequency domain and time...

Spend last evening with some deep debugging on Windows and it seems this is true. On Win JavaSound only sees mono/stereo 8bit/16bit 44.1k from the DirectSound implementation. No 96kHz, no 24bit, not...

It is true that the simplest global query for all lines is not returning all lines and you need some guessing to find all the capabilities, but lines for 8 channel output (not stereo pairs trickery)...

Let's hope. I don't feel it is worth to spend even more money on this thing if it continues to eat some sounds and produce other unpleasant sounds in return...

As it is a new hardware and some...

Yep. I know it. It is a bit obfuscated in the document, and they 'pretended' to think a bit differently... but in the end I see Flavio started to tell about the excess phase problems directly as...

The original question (when i intervened) was about lack of FIR resolution at low frequencies. And the main problem why you need such high resolution is room modes. That are best corrected with IIR....

There is a difference between believe and understand. Improper excess phase correction causes pre-ringing in time domain and it is an impact on SQ. Unfortunately negative one. Pre-ringing is masked a...

All room modes are... at their peaks. For that you correct. Of course they can't be min-phase at their nulls at the same time, but for that you don't correct, actually you can't do anything sensible...

As you actually need a minimum phase behavior to correct for room problems there is no point to use FIR for that. IIR is much more efficient in doing the same.

XT32 uses multirate. FFT is another way to execute large FIRs efficiently. It is not as easy to implement it in hardware (although implementable on modern FPGAs). In software it is pretty easy.

Sure you can rip a CD and then process it so it won't have sequences that makes XMC-1 faulty. But as have been pointed out many times - you shouldn't need to do that with a $2500 'audiophile grade'...

Add some DSP processing (like volume normalization - this should be enough and also useful) and set dither to TPDF. This should make a workaround.

Up to 135dB unweighted S/N ratio is called "elevated noise floor" in the current state of power amplifier evolution? Am I seriously behind of the current state?
