It would definitely be nice if HDMI devices (TVs, receivers...) reported their latency every time a setting change affected latency. But yeah, even doing it properly in initial EDID report would be...

I'm thinking more online reviews rather than printed. But yeah, that's partially what I meant. Many products aren't reviewed, and the ones that are aren't always reviewed thoroughly. In my limited...

Presumably you can see it through reviews. Though admittedly, subs and speakers aren't as regularly and thoroughly reviewed as some other fields, such as computer gear.

If I lay down on the bottom surface any random piece of foamy material, without affixing it, would that be helpful or can it also be detrimental?

If it's so easy and cheap to do, why do they...

I don't know what to expect, so my suspicion isn't because of how it sounds. It's because of the sub's internals: a driver terminal connection that was too easy to slide back on, a bad solder joint I...

Question How to test a sub, including sound quality?

I have a new sub. First one for me. For a few reasons I'm suspicious of it, even though it produces sound.

Can anyone suggest objective or subjective ways to assess its output?
