You would think that a communications company would know who to talk to on the other side of the building to get a notice sent out for viewers. I guess the engineering departments don't really think...

I really think the only source you could have potential issues with is the DVR. Try using HDMI only first, only go optical if you have issues. Get the extra switches out of the loop if at all...

The 360 is a terrible streaming machine, so I don't use it. And I don't do much gaming, either.

For the PS3, make sure Deep Color is off. Set the audio output to Bitstream. That should do it.

I...

If you're only using the optical input, you won't experience any dropouts. The problems we've been having are via HDMI.

That being said, you do realize you're not getting uncompressed audio from...

Oh, one more thing - if you're ever asked "who is Iowa State's _______?", just answer either "Sam Richardson", "the Lazard kid" or "that Kamari guy". We have two of each, so the odds are better.

In addition to what Markus referred to on the UMC, tell your DVR to send DD, don't set it to "Auto". That way it won't be switching around from DD to PCM & back when going to commercials. Just more...

It's definitely a quirk with the UMC (and don't expect it to get fixed), but most are having no problems playing from a PS3. Try setting your PS3 to send Bitstream to the UMC and let it decode there....
