I'm not so sure. I have not seen anyone with the curved model making claims of perfect dark gray uniformity. Most people report seeing something closer to this:

We've discussed this to death when HDMI 2.0 was first announced. It's yet another half-assed standard designed to make sure you'll be upgrading again in a few years when HDMI 2.1, 2.2, etc. are...

I can't speak for Samsung phones but their OLED TV viewing angles were not perfect either. I tested the set extensively about a year ago and commented on the green/blue tint on off-angle grayscale....

We should qualify this by saying that "LG OLED IR" definitely exists. I have seen no evidence that other types of OLED have temporary IR. That may explain why the Samsung only gets permanent BI.

Unfortunately, this method seems to have poor uniformity as seen in the streaky and patchy dark grays on the LG OLED. It look like neither LG or Samsung have an ideal solution.

That warning is there for all of their TVs because all of them suffer from image retention - regardless of panel technology. It does not mean that you can just ignore it.

Also, I would not read...

I see nothing wrong with this concept if they can eventually offer sizes similar to typical front projection setups (110-140"). I'm sure many other people would gladly scrap their projector if it...

I think Plague should wait for the 2014 1080p oled (55ec9300). That's a $5000 set so basically equal in price to what he already has. They were supposed to release before the end of July.

No flat 4K OLED TVs have been announced by anyone. LG showed a flexible prototype that could be bent into a flat shape. Who knows if that will turn into an actual product in the future.

If LG...

Well, it's a theory at least. Time will tell what's actually going on with these TVs. I actually hope that this is not the case because IR caused by backplane issues is something that LG is...

I think it's almost 100% certain that the letterbox IR you guys are seeing has nothing to do with OLED.

If you read Chad's review of a recent 4K LG LCD, you will find it also suffers from IR:

Placebo is a wonderful thing. It's 4K therefore it must be better. Who cares about the charts. :)

I doubt any consumer level meter will even be able to measure OLED IRE level 1/100. At 100 cd/m2 white level and 2.2 power gamma, that would be ~0.004 cd/m2.

Having the tv crash while using an app is not that surprising - that's likely a bug in the app. That's why I suggested unplugging the network entirely while debugging this issue. But having a TV...

What's the point of a holographic projector? Where will you get fully 3d content to display on it? Sounds more like a toy for the simulation/scientific community.

Beyond just brightness, we should also be concerned about color shift as the set ages. Hopefully it won't get bad enough that it can no longer be calibrated.

That 30,000 hour claim is likely theoretical. I doubt they've actually been running these panels 24/7 for the past 3.5 years to confirm those claims. It also doesn't guarantee that all the pixels...
