The Bdt-700 does support hdmi 2.0 which gives it an ability to upscale to 4k @ 60fps, however the player does not support hdcp 2.2 and has no h265 decoder, so cannot and never will play native 4k...

Correct, unless you are either playing native 4K BD OR 4K streaming, there is no need for HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2

HDMI 2.0 is only required if you need to pass 4K content @ above 30fps. 4K upscaling Bluray players are only upscaling to 4K @ 24fps (from a BD disk), so HDMI 1.4b is more than adequate.

There's away to trick it, by simply scrolling to 30s+ and hitting play and you will instantly see it switch to max bit rate/resolution. You can then scroll back to the beginning of the clip .......
