Yes, could very well be an issue with the volume control switch. Try lowering the volume to Zone 2 and see if that doesn't resolve the issue.

DIRECT on Pioneer apparently just passes the bitstream audio and in that instance, EQ would be enabled. On Denon AVRs you do this by simply selecting DD/DTS.
