Use 1080i as the base resolution in the Nvidia control panel, it "should" offer an optimized version of 1776x1000i as well. Try that one. Usually works on 1080i displays that overscan quite a bit.

Don't need all that for a "media server". You'll never utilize the SATA 3 speeds (unless you're seriously planning to go all SSDs for your storage server) or the PCI-E 3.0 speeds or the DDR4 speeds....

For heights and surrounds, yes. The "wides" should ideally be the exact same speaker as your left and right (center not withstanding). They play the same frequency spectrum as L/R
