yeah without the glass I suspect the fan is...

yeah without the glass I suspect the fan is pulling air from the port instead away from the projector.

Unless I am reading your post wrong I don't think you understand inwall speakers. That whole structure they have is what will be your walls and ceiling, that is NOT part of the system.
