If it were me, I'd just lower the backlight settings on the display. If it has no backlight settings, then lower the contrast a few ticks.

I am shooting for the first quarter of next year. It will have a lot of really cool new features--the biggest upgrade to CP since release--but whether there is a "need" will be up to users to decide.
