I gave up on the whole RAID/Parity thing for home use. It just seemed too much trouble, with excessive management overhead and risk. I'd heard as many horror stories and success ones with FlexRaid as...

MPC-HC VIDEO_TS Screen blank

I'm currently testing MPC-HC + LAV + MadVR for upscale and playback of VIDEO_TS DVD rips on my NAS. Generally, it works great. Pic/Audio are fantastic, but I've noticed (what I believe to be), when...

I believe the Celeron N2820 is actually a quad-core Haswell Bay-Trail Atom, but should be fine for general media-center use. Openelec runs well on it apparently, as does XBMC. Intel's ARC just says...

NextPVR and MediaPortal are two that spring to mind, along with JRiver. The only problem might be copy-protected content - but it depends how you receive your TV.

I think there's quite a few decent looking HTPC cases. Considering it's probably a low sales-volume investment for case makers, companies like Silverstone, OriginAE and others have done pretty well...

Don't bother with fibre in the house. Not worth it at all. Stick with CAT6a, and you're pretty much future proofed to 10G and possibly beyond.

I think we can agree that there are some glaring bugs in the MS-DTV decoder that MS have zero intention of fixing. I'd be interested to know if these same bugs are in the Windows 8/8.1 version of...

On UK HD channels, especially fast panning action like football, the frame drops (causing picture jumps) are very obvious and distracting. I've looked at various reasons as to why this might be; CPU...

I think that's the right answer. I've been playing around with the decoder settings, and disabled the DTV-DVD decoder just to see what happened, and yes, LAV decoder kicked in. It appears it doesn't...

Due to a couple of issues with occasional frame drops and me striving for the best picture quality, I'm try to get my Win7x86 HTPC to use LAV instead of the Microsoft decoder for live TV...

What O/S is your media server running? I'm using WHS 2011 along with Lights Out. When a client wakes up, the server will wake. Simple, and it works brilliantly.

Well, maybe there's a small argument for you 'giving it a go', but for 99.9% of HTPC users, it's not even worth considering at the moment. Microsoft are never going to add native 4k support to WMC...

I know 4K is the current 'big thing', but with little or no content out there, what's the big deal in trying to get WMC to output @ 2160P? There's nothing broadcast at this resolution, and you're...

Ok, I stand corrected, but that must be a pretty new feature. We have brand new PC's here with Intel desktop RAID chips, and TRIM definitely doesn't work on those. You also lose the hotplug support...

Something that may have been overlooked. Running SSD's in any form of RAID will mean TRIM won't work. You need to be running SSD's in AHCI mode for this, and I feel it's vital for SSD's to have TRIM...

Always rated Noctua case fans. Best out there. Haven't tried Noctua CPU fans though, but I can only imagine they are very, very good indeed.

I'd probably consider MBT BETA ready (as is the rest of the MB3 suite). I tried it, and found it very stable, although I've now reverted back to MB Classic with MB3 server. When they get the Live TV...

Still don't see the point. A single SSD is fine for most O/S use, and leaps and bounds over what we had before. RAID0 just introduces extra risk (although I understand modern SSD's are generally very...

I'm using both - Plex mainly for the kids with a locked down library on Roku clients, but on the same server (WHS2011), I'm running MB3 with MB3 Classic in 7MC on my main HTPC. Honestly, MB3 blows...

I'm just starting out trying to get 3D (stereo) fsbs MKV's playing on my system. CPU is only a Athlon dual-core CPU, but GPU is now an HD7750 connected via HDMI 1.4a to a 3D plasma TV. I can create...

I just experienced an odd problem after upgrading my HD4670 GPU (CAT 11.8) to an HD7750. WMC is fine, and HD playback in MPC-HC is fine, but DVD folder playback in TMT3 and/or TMT5 for that matter...

First, a small recommendation. Try 'VidCoder', which is a great (simpler) front-end to Handbrake. I've switch across recently with some great results. Handbrake is a brilliant tool, but all the...

This forum used to be alive with WMC discussions, as that was the predominant choice for a dedicated HTPC. Many still use it, but mainly on Windows 7. Windows 8 w/WMC is an expensive option, so...

Agreed. That's a 2010 era i3 with a relatively weak GPU. Fine for the simple stuff, but not up to much else. A discrete GPU would be the answer, and a relatively cheap 'upgrade'.
