You better have gotten that sub for at least half of retail to make it anywhere worthwhile. Even then, it won't have good 20hz extension, and it's certainly going to be pushing it's limits to reach...

That much sub will not overwhelm the speakers. That's why subs have a gain control on the back, and why you run the room correction software on the receiver. Then the sub will be calibrated to work...
