Having the CD's a couple inches above ear height will not be a problem at all. I would opt to have all three speakers at the same exact height before I would worry about anything else....

With those speakers, you won't need more power really than what an AVR already offers. With that said, I have the 7702 and run Dsonic 7 channel amp, as well as an outlaw amp on the atmos speakers now...

That crackle is probably because you are running the CD's full range, well outside of their intended FR, not because the horn is cracked... There is a reason that 99% of speakers have crossovers...
