JRiver is an excellent piece of software for consuming local media, as long as you don't need live TV (especially protected/copy-once stuff). If/When they add that support, it'll be almost ideal.

I agree the "latter" isn't perfect, but...it is by far the most robust solution if you want auto-refresh rate switching (and done right). madVR is way above anything else.

I STILL use Media Center...
