I have both drives on a Win7 machine and havent had to do anything other than a default NTFS format to get going, and no speed issues (that I'm aware of).

PowerDVD9 doesnt play mkv IIRC...but PowerDVD10 can.
You might try Cursor Hider. I have it and it generally works, but sometimes it just flakes and won't disappear the cursor until you move the mouse. I'd say 90% of the time the mouse cursor vanishes as expected.
