FWIW, it looks like all of these websites are closely related: www.allaboutadapters.comwww.ambery.comwww.proavlink.comwww.acevio.com .
FWIW, I think that Amazon Title is probably wrong, because based on the first sentence of "Technical Details" at Amazon,I tend to agree with sivadselim, "...that all it does is send duplicate... info to all three mini jacks." .
Well put, GregLee -- The adapter that Tritavius bought from Amazon only "...converts [2] standard stereo RCA plugs to three [identical] 1/8" stereo mini plug jack inputs", so... Tritavius' Powered Surround Sound Speaker System can't possibly produce true Surround Sound using such an adapter, because each speaker needs its own distinct channel to do so. An old Dolby Pro Logic unit or a new AV Receiver could probably create multiple distinct "virtual" surround sound...
HERE is a Crappy 5.1-Only MOCHA JY-M2 Decoder from eBay, for $163 Shipped (from Hong Kong):http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130308528912 [Kinda makes that first unbranded one look a LOT better, huh?] ___________________________________________BTW, that $145 unbranded 5.1/7.1 Decoder is also available (at the same price) at a pretty professional looking website named allaboutadapters.com: http://www.allaboutadapters.com/hddodtsdihdo.html ...
Most of this thread is WAAAAY over my head, but isn't this what you're talking about? HDMI LPCM 7.1 5.1 Multi-Channel Audio Decoder With 8 Analog Lines Out + Amplified HDMI Out http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=350193812906 * Multi-purposed HDMI digital to analog audio solution with multi-channel audio decoder built in for LPCM audio. * Cost-efficient solution for integrating the new HDMI-based AV equipment into receivers or home theater systems...
A DVD Player probably lacks the digital inputs, right? But maybe an old DVD Recorder could work for me --
Exactly right, shinksma -- My thought is that with the chance of Terrestrial TV catching on soon, a market just may evolve for a low-end Digital OTA STB which converts both video and audio to analog feeds. [But then I still have an 8 Track Tape Player, so what do I know?]
Thanks for replying, Dave and John -- I will have only OTA for a while, but hope to at least add Unscrambled Cable (clearQAM) soon. I already own a powered 5.1 Speaker System, so my main concern is decoding 5.1 Surround Sound Signals -- hopefully withOUT having to buy an AVR.
For $1.09 shipped, maybe you should just try this? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2636
[Maybe this belongs in Audio Chat?] With the impending switchover to ATSC-only OTA TV signals, I'm interested in cobbling together a really cheap surround sound setup -- without investing in an AVR, if at all possible. I was hoping to find an OTA (Over-the-Air) Digital TV Converter STB (Set Top Box) which would also decode the 5.1 digital sound into 6 analog outputs (which I could then feed into an old surround sound system -- which I already own), but... NONE of...
