The key problem has really been EDID parsing by the drivers, and particularly by AMD. For instance AMD has not fixed yet their problem with detection of HD audio capability with EDIDs with only a 6-LPCM descriptor (5.1 only AVRs). OTOH...

That could work (to apply the EDID Override to the GenericPnP monitor driver automatically generated by windows due to HDMI hotplug detection - when switching - giving 2 channel audio). I used to suggest this trick before but didn't work...
