Found a local with two Empires who was willing to take my busted Legend off my hands for $50 so I can clear the space for a better, higher quality sub.
Good luck to those of you with working Epik subs, you'll need it!
Just saw this thread after my 3 year old Epik Legend sub blew out a week ago (I smelled a burning plastic smell after we turned it on) and a super loud popping sound. When I last looked at the website I saw it was still in warranty, so I sent an email. Didn't hear back for a week so I tried calling, and saw the voicemail "the company is closing."
Wish I had seen this thread before waiting a week and wasting my time with a warranty claim.
So what are my options now?...
I was in the same dilemma two years ago and I settled with the Tivo Premiere and I've been paying the monthly fee.
It's a shame, because honestly the Tivo Premiere is one of the worst devices I've ever used. Locks up constantly, reboots take forever, and the netflix client is terrible.
I wish there was a clear cut answer for this. Seems like a really good opportunity for someone to build something awesome to disrupt this space. But I guess that won't happen until Google...
Thanks for the response. I setup YAMJ with my PCH but never really used it much since I cycle movies in and out all the time to conserve space on the unit. So the jukebox issue probably won't effect me.
How's the playback and compatibility on the Dune? I've read that nothing can touch the PCH for compatibility, and I'm considering just getting a small XBMC box instead just for that.
After serving me well over the past 2.5 years, I've decided to upgrade my trusty Popcorn Hour A110. It hasn't been a pain free experience, but it played nearly everything I threw at it until very recently and seems to crash more frequently.
I'm looking for a standalone player that enjoys wide compatibility with MKV video files with subtitles. The landscape has changed quite a bit regarding media streaming so I'm looking at the following options now:

1 - Too big. I mentioned in my post that I wanted to stay with a 12 inch driver or less. Not a dual 15 inch, 140 lbs monstrosity! If staying married wasn't as important, I'd totally get this though.
2 - I've been looking at the Emotiva for a while now. Thanks for the suggestion.
I purchased a pair of GS20s and a GS-LCR last year and I've really been enjoying the sound. This is in my 17x19x10 media room.
Now that I have budget for more upgrades I'm looking for some advice on the following:
1) Subwoofer in the $500-$800 range (don't need earth shattering bass, but something to fill out the low end). I don't mind spending more but I may go used/demo to save some money. I'm open to use ID companies like SVS, Hsu, and Outlaw Audio....
I'm looking to purchase the LFM-1 EX but I'm having trouble justify the purchase for something that is clearly an older model. Especially when many in this thread have purchased the same sub for $100 less with free shipping a year ago.
Anyone know if Outlaw will be running any specials soon? Or maybe they have something new in R&D that will see a release quickly?
