Depends on the month. During the summer, I might go a couple times a week if the movies interest me. Usually I get in at least once a month. Besides coupons and other sources of free movie admissions, we have very inexpensive admissions (as low as $4.70 on Tuesdays). Concessions will ruin you though which is why I hardly ever eat anything at the cinema. Just came back from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Can't imagine watching this at home by my lonesome. Has to be...
So far it doesn't look like this thing will be usable outside of the USA. Anyone got one by now can tell us if the DNS can be switched using a VPN service? Hopefully it's not a locked out system like the Roku requiring drastic means to access content. Otherwise, the thing is little more than a curio to those of us not in the USA...
Have you written to Hauppage? I find they are very good at solving problems like this. They might also provide you with alternative capture software as they did in my case with a stripped down version of Arcsoft Showbiz that I use for all my captures. For high def at least it works great and preserves the 5.1 Dolby surround sound from those sources. I have not tried to use the Hauppage to capture SD as I have Pioneer video recorders for that and they work great. My sources...
Mezzmo review: http://download.cnet.com/Mezzmo/3000-18515_4-10797917.html I want to use Plex as it also has channels, much like XBMC. Another problem I've encountered is the Roku rebooting when using Plex. Is that normal? It doesn't do it if Plex isn't running and is streaming using another server software. There is only 1 user in the household (me) and there is nothing else going on at the time I'm using Plex, no downloading, no converting, nothing to interfere with...
I'm using a Teleco supplied Comtrend CT-5374 multi DSL CPE router running at 25 mbps wired directly to the Roku XS. Using Plex with 3.0 mbps and 720p selectedresults in much buffering. Using Mezzmo with the same device and running rips of Blu Rays as 10+ GB MKVs,there is smooth playback and no buffering. I'm figuring it might be a buffer setting for Plex. What is your bufferset at?
I've just loaded this software up but it's buffering like crazy or causing my Roku XS to constantly reboot. Settings are 720p with max. 3 MBps (default) which is actually on the low side for streaming content like AVIs and SD MKV's. I was using Mezzmo because it handled DVD ISOs which Plex can't do (never figured out why) but had no scraping for content. I also have Plex on my Android and iOS tablets since the apps were cheap to buy this week. My streaming computer is an...
Can't use the Homeworx in Thunder Bay. 3 OTA channels and Shaw cable scrambles all channels. Not much use in these parts unfortunately...
Mezzmo can stream DVD ISOs but only in a limited way...no selectable subs or languages. Haven't tried stuff like Media Browser: http://www.mediabrowser3.com/download/ Plex can do a lot but for the best performance, you have to pay for a premium subscription. I notice a lot of Roku channels have gone from free to pay solutions as has Roku as a company with its Dishnetwork affiliation. So if you aren't in the USA, the box becomes worthless. Good thing I picked up a couple...
Any idea if there is serious work being done on a version of XBMC for the Roku units that managed to get the recent hack installed? That would be very welcome...
Some of the newer devices designed for game capture can go much higher: http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Capture-PlayStation-Recorder-10025010/dp/B00840353W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386721990&sr=8-2&keywords=elgato+game+capture+hd http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1386722191&sr=8-3&keywords=avermedia+game+capture+hd but for set top boxes for recording TV? Good thread...
