I must admit i also thought the pvr had screwed up. I suppose they ended it in an open ended way such that they could bring the series back in the future if they wanted to.

Ah that would explain the issue of not being able to record one HD channel whilst watching another. Thanks for the clarification.

I have a friend who has one. The DVR is OK. Although it has 2 tuners for some reason when you record a HD signal, the other tuner can only watch something in standard quality. Not sure if you can record two things at once. I would check...
