DACs in a desktop computer are highly suspectable to all kinds of electrical interference. Try both, but I would go with firewire.

Sounds like the 8003 has the the LFE bug(or the settings are wrong), and the 7001 doesn't.

What does your SACD Audio out connection look like ?
