Thinking out loud: If sony could do this (this being build LED displays up modularly, using a grid of smaller, easier to manufacture pixel arrays), then why couldn't they or anyone else for that matter do the same with LCD, or even plasma? I.e. if it is cheaper to do it that way, why hasn't it been done before? I imagine part of the issue is getting consistent calibration (for lack of better word) across each tile, such that you cannot see the grid.
