That is a good point. My wife has the Apple iPad Mini and when she connected the Dyle Elgato device it connected to the "mother ship" via wifi!

I wonder if a used Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G (without cell service) would allow just the stand alone Dyle TV service to work? It could be a portable TV!

In case anybody here in the Twin Cities is still interested, I was at Micro Center earlier today and they seemed to have more TV antennas than ever in stock.

While I don't know for sure, I rather doubt that there is a technical difference.
