I think the upgrade is for the bandwidth side of Directv not really the customer side. Your not going to receive any new channels other than OTA and Directv has not annouced any new HD. They dont even have the new dish out, I think...
I would make a list of codes you input or check sheet. It would sux if your mind goes blank for a sec and you dont remember if you punched in that code or not.

I HAve the H10, Its either IR or RF the remote cant do both at the same time. If you want to use your sony remote try running an IR sensor with a wall swithc plate. It looks very professional and will allow you to use the sony remote
