I am looking at the euro spec LG 9500 series lcd. It appears to be multisystem in all respects except for the fact that it is 400HZ. I am in the US Army in Germany, but do not desire to drop this kind of coin (when said TV is released) if I can't bring it home with me.
Google can translate it quite nicely.
Your inputs are greatly appreciated.
Sharp makes their own glass in Japan. They have 4 plants that I can name off of the top of my head: The massive Kameyama 1,2,&3 line in Mie Prefecture, and the brand new Sakai plant in Osaka. I am sure that their are even more. They don't get their stuff from Chai Mei or any of the Chinese crap.
I have come full circle and am back to loving the 950. "Speed Racer" looks so awesome on that set at Magnolia. The 120HZ is amazing, and the picture pops like nothing that I have ever seen before. It is, IMHO, the set to beat for PQ and watchability.
I too would agree that the screens appears to not glar like a mirror. Most Japanese LCD's have a matte screen.
Sometimes at the B&M superstores in Japan, actually most always, you get 10-20% in points on your "point card" This translates to a 10-20% discount, but you have to spend your points at the named retailer.
The control box looks almost identical to the Sharp blu-ray player. It looks very clean.
Take a look at the whites though. I never noticed it before, but I was looking at a Sony LCD, Kuro, and a Panny two days ago, and the LCD sure makes the whites on the plasmas look milky.
Choose your poison. The XS1 looked great, but it was in a bright room. If the blacks are as good as advertised, it is the set for me.
