I'm still waiting for the following.
THE BIG SLEEP (1946)
JOHN GRISHAM'S THE RAINMAKER
SENSE AND SENSIBILITY
A SHOT IN THE DARK
SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE
WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION
The show did the Joffrey/Jamie thing out of order with the book. if I remember right. In the show Jamie arrives back in King's Landing in the last episode. In the book I think Jamie arrives back and sees his sister for the first time when she's by Joffrey's coffin.
If you mean climatic as be in the last episode, too much important stuff happens after the trial by combat to have it happen in then. Tyrion has to languish in the dungeons for a while, plus we need the privy scene. If you mean action standout, maybe but the final battle at the wall with Mance about to punch through only to have an unexpected arrival should be pretty good.As to the Mountain, yes he suffers a long slow very painful death. Arya leaves the Hound in very bad...
I'm speculating that Episode 9 will be the battle at the wall (north side). The last episode will include the privy, election of a new Lord Commander of the Night Watch, Lysa flying, Arya cashing in the iron coin and the very last scene the introduction of Lady Stoneheart. For those who haven't read the book, the last one should be a shocker. I'm expecting the royal wedding to occurring sometime between episode 2 - 4. The battle for the wall (south side) should occur...
In my mind it's entirely possible that at some point, either because Martin has fallen way behind or productions costs are reaching an unsustainable level or the show is loosing viewers, that the producers decide to write their own ending to give the show closure. And, it might be vastly different than what Martin envisions.
From the various events Martin has been attending it sounds like he's enjoying the good life.
I can see a problem for the season after next, book 4. If memory serves me correctly neither Dany and her dragons nor Tyrion appear in that book. Not having two of the most interest generating characters would be a rating disaster. A large part of book five runs in parallel at the same time as book 4 so it seems to me that they would have to merge the two, perhaps over two seasons.
