After a few days of play I have yet to lose sync with the replacement card I put in. Definitely better than spending $150 to get it repaired after warranty period.
I had never done anything like this before so I removed it so I would have plenty of room to work and see what I was doing. I guess in retrospect I didn't HAVE to remove the power supply. It just gave me a better view of what I was doing.
