How is the drive formatted Fat32,NTFS ? My understanding is that there are differences in the speed due to the implementation of the drivers. I think NTFS measured faster. I have been meaning to check my passport drive myself.
Most modern TV's are smart TV's and can show video music etc. The speakers on these TV's have a lot to be desired thus the ARC or optical back to the receiver. Of course you don't have to, if you don't mind listening to 1 or 2, 3 inch speakers facing the wrong way.
So what is the straight story on this router? My Asus RT66U's 2.4ghz radios had worked for the last year and then had been unstable for a few weeks and after updating the firmware resetting etc. etc. I went out and purchased the Netgear 7000. Mainly on the fact that it wasn't Asus and it had a fast Dual core CPU and USB3 as I have a fairly large 20k file flac collection that took forever to navigate through on my Asus usb2 port.

This is the signal that is feed to the TV not what the cable box is capable of receiving. So if your TV is capable of 1080P 60 for (P is for progressive) then set it for that value. The cable box with de interlace the 1080i or up convert 720P to the resolution that you selected.
Now the X4000 has two HDMI (VIDEO) outs so couldn't you have two HDMI tv's attached and output to both TV's?I had considered doing this for superbowl but decided it was to much trouble to drag the second tv downstairs. Or can it only output video to one HDMI output at a time? I guess I assumed you could mirror the video out on both HDMI outputs.
There are a lot of pro's looking for work today due the loss of a number of pro teams. I don't think the corporate world who in the past have financed these teams want to be associated with the 'doping' culture of pro cycling. Not that Lance is responsible for all of the doping that went on, but he certainly is the poster boy especially in the US.
