I installed this firmware upgrade over the weekend. It will take a while to notice the TVGuide fixes, but one thing I saw immediately - the tuner seemed to work much more quickly.
I have a TH42PX600U with cable card.
This week Monday (8/28 Packers vs. Bengals) was the first in which ESPN put their HD equipment on the field. I watched the HD broadcast Monday and it was stunning. (local ABC affiliate carried the broadcast; I have TWC, but no STB)
Ouch is right! Anyway, I've noticed that TVGuide is 1 hour ahead, on a random basis, perhaps 10-30% of the time. My assumption is that the time is set by the signal, rather than by the TV, and that the signal occasionally gets messed up by someone at the broadcast company. Since I don't use TV Guide to program my VCR, this isn't a big problem. If you solve this problem, post it here.

Ok, that is pretty interesting. My DVD player is a bit better than the "$20 Costco" players - it is a $150 Sony VCR/DVD player that is a couple of years old. The picture looks fine over component cables, whether I turn on Progressive...

1. The "Model" you have.
Panasonic TH42PX600U. Ordered from Panny Direct 5/31. Delivered 6/19.
2. What convinced you to purchase this particular "Model".
Reviews of prior Panasonics, particularly Home Theatre Magazine and Consumer Reports. Reviews on this board further helped, particularly the ones showing dramatically better black levels versus the Pioneers. The price was considerably lower than the comparable Pioneers.

I got my new HDTV this week. I have analog cable, not digital, with no set-top box or antenna. I was pleasantly surprised to note last night that six Milwaukee HD stations are being picked up by my TV. They have either digital (e.g. 4-1) or 3-digit (e.g. 535 and 104) channel numbers. But this was an unexpected development - I was sure I'd have to subscribe to digital cable and get the HD package.
Just to add some balance: I ordered a 42 inch 600U on 5/31. The website said that shipping would occur about July 3. About 6/10, the ship date changed to 6/14. On schedule, my TV shipped 6/14, with delivery the afternoon of 6/19. No problems (yet) with Panny Direct from my viewpoint.
My how quickly that website changes! I've just placed an order at Panasonic Direct for the TH-42PX600U. The shipping date is either ~6/30/06 or 7/17/06, depending what screen I view. MSRP is $2999.95. They charge my state's sales tax but offer the Club Panasonic "first purchase" price. No delivery charge unless I want "white glove" treatment.
