I built a similar system with the 400w Corsair power supply which you can get from newegg around $35-$40 lately.
I have the same issue with an integrated ATi 4200 w/hdmi. I'm hooked up to a tv. Turning the TV off and back on will fix the issue most of the time. I'm going to try the other driver as well now.

The 7200rpm version is still a green drive. Heat and noise are not an issue with it, it's a great drive. It should only spin up to 7200 when needed, so most of the time it won't be any different than the slower drive, yet it can still...
I'd go with 7200rpm for the speed. I don't think the cache makes as big a difference.
