Well I don't mind used, so going eBay is no problem for me. So cut the price of those Best Buy speakers in half :D
I would probably shoot for something around 1 - 1.75 ft^3. One of the suggested projects from Dayton uses a 1.173 ft^3 enclosures, and others use more. The larger enclosures give it more roll off, so it also depends on your room gain....

Usually the sealed enclosures are more "tight" if that's what you mean by "snap". As for the enclosure size, bigger usually means more base extension, but the effects on the sound vary from driver to driver.
Building your own mains apparently don't save you as much money as building your own sub. I'm going to start building my own bookshelf speakers soon, and I'm really only saving around $50 I think when compared to commercial ones that can...

Very nice sub! Now when you come home from a stressfull day of work, all you have to do is sit in that chair and crank up some music. Instant massage :D
Quick question: why is going for a lower tune bad for just one sub? Does the output become a problem?
