Yeah you can just set it up in windows... Personally I'd rather just let the receiver do it and forego the direct mode, but it's up to you.

32-bit/x86 player is the default, you shouldn't have to change anything. The taskbar button and the Start Menu shortcut both give you 32-bit WMP it seems, by default (just as was the case with Vista x64).
