The story on how Eorzea was saved. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-18-naoki-yoshida-final-fantasys-world-saviour
Yeah, all EA had at risk was the initial money they put forward (which was fully insured) Respawn had their entire company on the line and Microsoft had all the money they spent on the development, the money spent on the hype machine and advertising, and the money they spent on the bundles... Microsoft had the most to lose in the deal once they stepped in.
I'll be on in an hour or so, got a show on first.

Yeah, one or two retailers added that in trying to drive up more sales.Speaking of sales, PSN 99 cent flash sale.http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=804285
Well, this thread derailed again...
I am well aware of all that. That 5 million includes Titanfall bundles, which retailers are trying to move, hence the price cuts and added items (like a year of Live) Microsoft had to get 5 million shipped to meet their internal projections, so you can bet they made deals with retailers to get them to take on even more stock of a console that has had surplus supply since mid December.
$450 for the console plus a free game and a free year of Live, that comes out to $330 for the console if you want to do the math that way. Retailers are really trying to move units right now, Microsoft must have really pushed hard to make that 5 million shipped number.
Sony could just as easily announce a PS4 price cut to $299 just to slam the door in their face (unlikely as Sony should be breaking even or earning a small profit per unit at this point) Price cuts don't do much without the software to back them up. The 3DS $80 cut was a bust until Mario released, all the Wii U price cuts didn't help. Microsoft needs to do what Sony did, double down on first party, get new studios up and running and fund a bunch of risky projects world...
