For a hundred bucks I'd go back with a CD and find a plug in the store. The main problem with the 3910 was the traverse mechanism, and if the counter starts showing that the CD is playing it should work.
I think obsolete is too harsh of a term here.
I for one am very happy with my AVR-4806/DVD-3910.
If I have the choice I'll choose Blu-Ray on my Samy, but DVD's go in my Denon.
Watching a DVD on my system is still miles ahead of 80% of the people that I know (in the real world).
Have not tried that yet as It is easier to physically switch the hdmi cable (going to the tv) between the Blu Ray and DVR. Even putting it on my DVD-3910 is easy as all the audio is hooked up separate too.
DVD-3910=DL3 (as always)
Samy Blu Ray=7.1 channel input (as always)
DVR=Optical in (was HDMI)
Just waiting now to see if the AVR 4311 will do 11.x or getting the AVR-A100
Thank you for the audioholics link DarinI wouldn't spend any money until the "claims of expandability" are fully realized.
It is so annoying when supposed experts completely miss the point. 11.2 is not about putting speakers in the bathroom it is about expanding the 5.1/7.1/9.1 sound envelope.
Its like those reviewers without stereoscopic vision complaining about 3D being a waste of time.
So it looks like it is an inch shorter in height, but outputs the same power as the 4810.
I really don't understand the overall marketing plan they are going for. Seems like they should've shot higher in the product line for 100th Ann. products. I can only guess this is the first part of 2 rounds of products, also the limited 6 month run might also support this as well. I hope they are saving the "AVP-CIX" for the second round.
