Thanks! That is what I was looking for. I'll also look for that edid thread before I pull the trigger. Appreciate the help.
I have this problem that unless I leave my receiver on 24/7, as soon as it goes off, my HTPC loses its audio connection to it, and the only way to bring it back around is to either unplug and re-plug the HDMI cable, or reboot the computer, both while the receiver is on. This is very frustrating and kills any sort of spontaneous desire to use the HTPC. I thought I remembered reading on here or elsewhere (I've been searching around and haven't found it yet), that there's...
Well, that's good to hear that the Roamio is an improvement. The thing that I am juggling the most in my mind is things have to be simple. If I were single and lived on my own it would be one thing, but my wife isn't going to be up for any sort of troubleshooting when I'm not there, and she's already used to the TiVo. I think I'm leaning more towards going that route.Since it isn't an absolute dire need, I wonder if they will be having some decent black friday sales on...
What extender(s) do you recommend? The 360 is out because it uses a lot of electricity, takes a while to boot up (in my opinion), and do you need to pay for live to use that feature? I don't pay for live. The Ceton echo seems to get poor reviews from the demonstrations I've seen on YouTube, plus it will only play what Windows Media Center will (ie no MKVs).Either way I'll start reading up on the HTPC forum. Thanks
Thanks for the suggestions. So it sounds like the TiVo solution I presented or a set of HTPCs is the way to go. What kind of specs do HTPCs need to be at these days to stream 1080p video over the network? I guess in addition I'd need to get one of those Ceton InfiniTV 6 ethernet tuners, and a big hard drive somewhere. How responsive is the Ceton unit? Is changing channels and starting/pausing recordings pretty snappy? One of the annoyances of my TiVo HD and even my...
I have a 5 year old dual tuner TiVo HD with a lifetime subscription. For the most part it's been good over the years, except it is showing its age now and is fairly limited compared to what is out these days. The 2 tuners is a bummer, when all the new shows come on at the same time. I also need a way for Multiroom viewing in an additional room. The TiVo is in the living room, but my wife and I watch some different shows, and I would like a way for one of us to be able...
I have an older acer machine that has an onboard video card (geforce 9200) w/ hdmi. When I connect it to my sharp aquos and set resolution to 1080p native (1920x1080), it comes up on the tv, however there is a flicker problem. The flicker is like what you get when you change inputs on the tv. It goes black for a second while it looks for the signal, and comes back. While it's in one of these flickers, you lose audio. When not much is going on and I'm just working on...
I just called over to Sony (or India) to talk to their support. I was put on hold for about 10 minutes while she reviewed it with a "product specialist". they came back blaming the sound systems I've been plugging into because I couldn't verify if they had "Sony" equipment and then fed me a whole bunch of bs that non technical people probably just accept, but I could tell it was 100% bs. You happened to respond while I was still on the phone so I asked her if the camera...
My organization recently purchased the Sony HDR cx700v camera in hopes of recording our events. We have an XLR to 3.5mm cable so we can plug into press boxes so we can bring the audio feed right into the camera. The problem is, there seems to be some sort of Auto Volume feature, where if there is a silent part of the feed, after 1-2 seconds the camera will try and overcompensate and raise the volume of feed, which is silent, and the result is a loud, annoying hiss. It...
I need to be able to wirelessly transmit audio on one laptop to the PA system in another room, which is hooked to the mounted ceiling speakers in the room of the laptop. I've come across the following 2 products I believe might work. For both products, I think all I'd need to do is find a RCA to XLR cable to plug in from the receiver to the PA. Creative Labs Sound Blaster Wireless Audio Transmitter and Receiver...
