For at least the last 10 years kids who might have grown up to become Golden Ears have been suckled on MP3s. The paradigm has shifted massively -- vast music libraries of B- sound quality recordings are the order of the day.
The screen is up. Installation is a two man job, but man the picture ROCKS!
Complete no brainer at this price. I will put it against screens costing ten times as much and I will win.

Everything I've seen and read says that the benefit of the SE comes through the analog end, and that HDMI is unaffected.
From my experience, the gain in quality from a more mundane player is dramatic.
Go analog and get the SE while the upgrade is available.

I can only comment on how the SE differs from my Sony Bluray, but I after three days I can say the differences are significant and dramatic. Sonic resolution and soundstage are the two biggest improvements, especially on percussion instruments. My center channel needs some tweaking -- I've noticed some boxy qualities on some passages and I have spent most of my calibration efforts on the video side. (I need a new projection surface BTW, my screen is now my pinch...
