I am using a L/R as a center. If you have the means to do so, I don't see why you wouldn't. The dispersion of the tweeter is wider (180 degrees) in the L/R option than the center option (somewhere around 120 degrees).
I used to own M22tis and VP150 and can tell you that they were very bright. They were OK for the money but certainly not the giant killers that they were advertised to be.

Personally, I think the UMC-1's lack of a room correction feature like Pioneer's MCACC makes it unattractive unless you're listening in a really ideal room.

Simon, before i wall mounted by stradas i listened to them in various positions and frankly, they sounded great in even the worst ones (right against the wall lying horizontally flat on the media cabinet)

The gallo stradas make for amazing on-walls. But, they are not as shallow/flat to the wall as some of the speakers you mention if that is a concern.
Take a look. I love my setup of 5 stradas on the wall, absolutely incredible.
