I would just get something with nvidia 8200 or ati 3200, there cheap now and will play more than he needs so he can expand later if he wants.
I use 3 seperate HTPC's with Mediaportal installed and play content from my server to all 3. I dont do full bluray playback but it could do it.
Mediaportal can play .iso files using Daemon tools to mount it, and it will play them over a network. Not sure if thats what you wanted but it would work. Not sure about others since I use mediaportal but I imagine theres more options.
Ya I think this is a flaw in vista myself. I can transfer anything to the vista computer and max out my Gbit speed but anything from the vista computer and I can only get about 30% Gbit speed max.

It will see .iso's as a normal movie and I suggest using the Movingpictures plugin for movies all your movies will be displayed with the covers and movie info after you scan for the info, but it does that you just tell it where the...
