Yes I am connected via HDMI. So the whole aftermarket external DACs are all for not?

I currently have my HPTC connected to my Pioneer VSX-52 receiver. It's a sub $1000. I'm thinking about buying a DAC to assist or would a Sound Card be a better investment? My HTPC is an I3 3225 on ASrock h77M. Thoughts.
Boy is there a crap load of tweaking to be done. I built my first and only systems in about 5 hours back in Decemer. Today is April 9th and i am still tweaking. This is perfectly ok with me. The more i tweak, the more i learn about CPU's...
Most of the games that I plan to play on the emulator are from my youth, So it would be NES, SNES and Genesis games. So even if I did get the dongle, the xbox controller would not work on these games? But a regular PC game controller...
